Where is RNA located?
RNA is found mainly in the cytoplasm. However, it is synthesized in the nucleus where the DNA undergoes transcription to produce messenger RNA. Once the messenger RNA is synthesized, the messenger RNA exits the nucleus and carries the genetic information to the cytoplasm where the ribosomes (ribosomal RNA) and the rough endoplasmic reticulum are located. The genetic information in the messenger RNA, which is essentially a genetic blueprint for proteins, subsequently undergoes translation in the ribosomes and the rough endoplasmic reticulum to produce proteins whose components are delivered to the ribosomes by transfer RNA.
