A patient's respiratory rate is 8 breaths per minute with a sedation score of 4. What actions would you take?
The patient has Bradypnea which means low respiratory rate than normal(12-16 per minute). The vital signs has to be checked and recorded. A sudden application of mechanical ventilator is preferred where the machine makes sure that the body receives adequate oxygen and that carbon dioxide is expelled. Sedation score of the patient is 4 which means patient is Restless but cooperative and no external stimulus required to elicit movement. Administration of five P's of supportive therapy include perfusion, positioning, protective lung ventilation and protocol weaning. Monitor the changes in respiratory rate and assess the saturation. Administration of Doxapram hydrochloride intravenously to stimulate the respiration. Avoid situations which leads to respiratory failure.
