The primary lesson learned from the chapter International Industrial Relations and the Global Institutional Context is that international relations allow organizations and nations to cooperate and collaborate to pool resources, share information, and develop the community. Through international relations, nations and organizations have improved the mobility of goods, resources, and capital from one region to another. A country can not exist in isolation; it needs others to develop.

Collective bargaining is a tool that the trade unions use to bargain with the employer and consider their demands. Thus through collective bargaining, trade unions can fight for the rights of the employees. Through these roles, employees enjoy good working conditions, better pay, and their rights are protected. Trade unions adopt various mechanisms in presenting their grievances to the employer, depending on the union's culture and location. For instance, in India, trade unions strike by stopping working, while in Japan, unions strike by wearing a black badge and working for extended hours.

I plan to apply the concepts learned in the chapter in my personal and career life. As an international human relations manager, I plan to treat trade unions as a tool for protecting and defending employees' interests and serving as a mediator between the company and the employees. The positive attitude will help me develop a friendly and constructive relationship with the employees for organizational success.                                                                                                                          

 

3d. How has this knowledge changed your perception of the Management of Multinational Enterprises and International Human Resource Management? 

International human resource management and relations are essential in the success of a countries company. After reading this chapter, my eyes were opened to see the real significance of unions in a community. Before the class, I had a preset mind that global partnerships are work groups organized by employees to withstand managerial pressure in managing multinational enterprises. After going through the course, I now understand the importance of unions among the employees and the employers, the community, and the country.

My negative attitude towards trade unions has changed significantly. I was against any association of employees due to the belief that they are formed to champion the employees' interests at the employer's expense. I now understand that trade unions are developed to ensure safe and improved working conditions for the employees. When employees have their rights protected, they are motivated, and the employer benefits from increased employee commitment and performance. At a broad concept, trade unions are essential for the growth and development of a country, region, and the world. Unions help the community set the standards of education, safeguard workers' state and federal laws, fight for improved working conditions, and enhance life quality.
