While I think avoiding conflict is a good idea sometimes it's simply not possible. I believe the most important thing about conflict is that it is dealt with as quickly as possible. The longer a conflict is allowed to fester and grow in a team the more damage will be done to both the team morale and the overall outcomes of the project. So we know that conflict in certain cases is inevitable the important fact is that we recognize it and deal with it as quickly as possible.

Question - Have you worked on a team that had conflict and the project manager did not want to deal with it because they didn't like confrontation? And if that was the case how did it impact the team morale and the overall outcomes of the project?

One of the things that you need about agile team is almost a self managing group of individuals. While there is a scrum master who acts as a quasi-leader the team is still able to work on their own and solve issues and problems much faster than in a traditional SDLC project. Leaderless groups like agile teams can work through most situations and if they're not able to there should be an effective escalation process where they can go to get a resolution. But they are able to learn from their conflicts and in most cases solve them on their own.

Question - Work in a leaderless group that had conflict and if so how was that conflict resolved and you feel it was successful?

Every team response is going to have a certain amount of conflict is inevitable. If the team is mature and has worked together before the chances of them coming to a resolution and learning from the process is very high. Rarely agile teams have significant conflict that needs to be escalated to management. There may be decisions that need to be escalated because the agile team does not have authority to make certain decisions but typically they go to management with a solution and not just a problem or conflict. Agile teams are typically very professional and are able to work through most issues.

Question -What has been your experience with conflict if you worked on an agile team did you find that they were able to come to a proposal for a solution if they needed to present it to management?
