The existence of any monopoly should be met with hesitancy especially one already so large and trying to enter an important market. Amazon already controls a large part of the market for online goods and is expanding into other industries. It along with Google have more power than Standard Oil ever dreamed of. By letting Amazon or any company completely buy out local TV stations where many get their news, you create a monopoly on local news.

The counter-argument would be that there are alternatives such as national media or online sources but that is not true. Local TV stations still dominate the spread of local news. Amazon controlling it may not be able to control the narrative of national issues, but it can on a local level. They can push for policies that they want a local government to pass to increase profits. This put bluntly is unacceptable.
