A solid steel bar length a mm and 50 mm diameter is placed inside an aluminium tube 75 mm inside diameter and 100 mm outside diameter. The aluminium tube is b mm longer than the steel bar. An axial load of P kN is applied to the bar and anchored through rigid plates as shown below.
Take E for Aluminium as 95 GPa and 235 GPa for steel. Note that b = 1.0, a = 690 and p = 750 kN.
Stress on steel = 6089.56 mPa
Stress on Al = 31148.6 mPa
