Nigerian Women in rural communities and Breast Cancer Screening
This paper is a program design to help Nigerian women increase their breast cancer screening rates in rural areas. Indigenous women of Nigeria have struggled to access health care and a healthy lifestyle due to poverty, lack of medical care, finance, and education. Breast cancer is the most frequent cancer for women and is the second common cancer for women (Obajimi et al., 2013). There has been a rapid increase in breast cancer in Africa, especially Nigeria, with the aged standard ranking the highest breast cancer mortality rate (Azubuike et al., 2018). The article states that it was difficult to estimate the number of breast cancer incidence in Africa due to poor quality and incompleteness (Azubuike et al., 2018). In Nigeria, there is a high mortality rate of the disease annually due to a lack of breast cancer screening, self-breast examination, and most of them present in the late stages of the disease. Breast cancer mortality is prevented with early diagnosis through mammogram screening. The study shows that about 23% of women had a good knowledge of the importance of mammogram screening to detect breast cancer (Obajimi et al., 2013).
