Gender expectations limit the capabilities of the students by enclosing a specific gender to certain stereotypes (i.e. men
are better than women in math). As a result, men and women tend to pursue courses which the society tells they fit it.
It is very undeniable that education as a social factor helps create the identity of people. With these, education greatly influences how one sees himself/herself and identify themselves with a specific gender.
One of the major hurdles in achieving gender equality in education is breaking gender stereotypes. Take note that the issue on stereotypes is not only an issue of education, but is a big issue of culture. Hence, for us to be able to correct behaviors and practices towards achieving gender equality, we must fix the community's culture.
Gender equality in education must look like a setting wherein everyone regardless of their genders will be given the same opportunity to all resources. This also means that each student is free to express themselves in any form they want and free from any gender stereotypes that will hinder him/her/them to achieve their maximum capabilities.
To be able to achieve gender equality in education, we must create policies that will not let gender stereotypes and discrimination perpetuate. Policies must be comprehensive and strictly applied because everything will be useless if not. However, this would take a long time since we are talking about redefining the culture's practices and behavior, but it will greatly help.
