How did Microsoft monopolize the computer industry?

Microsoft monopolized the computer industry through proper timing, smart decision making, and mistakes by its competitors. In the 1970s, International Business Management (IBM) was the most known computer hardware industry. During that time, Microsoft began producing programming languages and later purchased an operating system and redesigned its software to license it to IBM for its new personal computer. With IBM allowing outside sources like Microsoft and Intel to develop its computer's operating system and produce the chips, it led to them effectively ceding control of the software industry. It led to Microsoft retaining the liberty to license its operating system to different manufacturers, which aided in generating massive IBM clown business. As a result, Microsoft monopolized the computer industry as Microsoft and Intel became the computer industry leaders.
