What type of market structure does Apple operate in?
Apple Inc. is a trillion-dollar company and if we just talk about apple iPhones, IPad and iOS it can come under an oligopolistic market structure because there are only 3 main operating systems that are competitive namely iOS, owned by Apple Inc., Harmony os, owned by Huawei and Android, which is owned by Google and all of them keep on adding new features to their operating systems to dominate the competition. Apart from that, there are only a few high-end and premium smartphones brand like One plus, Samsung, google pixel, and Huawei that are competing with Apple iPhones.
On the other hand, if we just talk about branded computers and laptops it can be categorized under monopolistic competition because there are a few branded computers and laptop companies such as HP, Lenovo, Asus, Acer, and Dell that are competing with Apple iMacs and MacBook. The products launched by these competitors are highly differentiated from each other and each of the competitors uses aggressive advertising and pricing strategies to maintain their market share making them a part of monopolistic competition.
