TOPIC: Human life continues to grow and changing according to the current changes occurring in the society and were marred by elements that are not as healthy as LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual) who start performing demanding their rights to be recognized.

1. The LGBT community is composed of those individuals whose gender preference has been greatly influenced by the environment and the society. No one was born a lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender. God created a man and a woman only. However, where an individual grows up or educated is a huge factor for him/her to start behaving as someone who's the opposite of what his/her gender was from birth. For example, if a boy grew up in a family with no father figure or any male to guide, he could acquire the habits or behavior of the women in his family; same goes to a girl growing up in a family with no mother figure or any female. On the other hand, there are cases that despite having both a father and mother figure in the family, somone can also be infuenced by his/her peers. This is very crucial among teenagers when someone start to realize that he/she is different.

2. There is a saying that goes, "Education starts at home." If a child is already deprived of his/her right of self-expression, then he will grow up feeling insecure and demotivated. This will forever affect on the child's well-being, and he/she will carry this on when he/she starts to discover life outside. The insecurity and demotivation that he/she feels could be a hindrance for him/her to succeed and achieve all his/her goals. Thus, if someone's rights are recognized starting from home, no one will ever experience discrimination. If parents support their childrens' desire of how they want to be, they can create a strong bond between them. Through this, they can teach their children how to respect themselves and other people. As a result, every child would believe that home is the safest place to be, and no harm will ever happen to them in the outside world.

3. Most issues/problems faced by the LGBT are the following:

a. Having very low self-esteem caused by lack of family recognition

Since parents don't support their children's preferences, they would grow up believing that no one would ever do it to them. Lack of support system from loved ones results to someone thinking that there's nothing he/she can achieve.

b. Mental and physical abuse

Since they are not accepted or recognized, they experience different forms of abuse. Physical abuse, for instance, will leave a scar not only to their body but to their heart and mind as well. Worse is, physical pain is curable by a certain medicine, but the pain felt inside is not. These forms of abuse teach no respect and trust towards one another. Hence, acceptance is very impossible to happen.

c. Depression

This is the result of the first two issues. According to studies, depression is one of the main causes of suicide. This is something to be addressed because most people never acknowledge that depression really occurs in an individual. In fact, even the person suffering from it doesn't even know he/she has it.

d. Health problems

Because of depression, someone ends up dependent on alcohol, cigarette, or even drugs. These things make them feel numb or immune from all forms of discrimination. In the long run, their body starts to deteriorate and diseases such as cancer develop. HIV/Aids is another issue surrounding the health care of the LGBT. Because of their need for acceptance and love, they do things such as unwanted sex without precautionary measures. In addition, most LGBT members are not satisfied with just feeling who they want to be. Some of them go throw the process of sex change and take pills for physical enhancement. This could also cause some health problems since medical procedures or taking pills have side effects.

e. Deprived of social rights

Since society is not ready to accept them, they are mostly deprived of their rights of education, as some schools like Catholic schools don't accept LGBT students. Some, in addition, despite being intelligent, are not given the right to assume a government position, or even a name in the company.

4. Solutions:

a. As I have mentioned, acceptance should begin at home. This is the place where one feels the most safe and secured. Parents should respect their children's preferences as much as they want to be respected by their children as well.

b. There must be a stricter law to be implemented to fully eradicate any forms of abuse. This will prevent not only the LGBT, but all people from being victims of such abuse.

c. Depression must really be addressed. If someone experiences this, counseling is to be done immediately and regularly. But still, I will emphasize that if there's acceptance and respect among individuals regardless of their gender preference, then no one will ever be depressed.

d. Health concerns is something that every one of us should consider as our responsibility. If we acknowledge the risk of our every action, then we can avoid any bad circumstances. Self-discipline is very important.

e. Same as the solution to the second issue. There is a reason why we have a government and politicians. Their purpose is to protect every right of every individual.

5. There are three advantages of addressing the issue of the LGBT.

First is, we learn to accept diversity and exercise respect towards others. If we start to recognize them, we will realize that there is more than just being born a man and a woman. Secondly, those members of the LGBT community will have a much better future ahead of them. The acceptance from the society will be a stepping stone for them to start gaining confidence, and eventually be able to achieve their dreams. Lastly, addressing this issue means that the society is beginning to acknowledge different changes. And since change is inevitable, accepting it and using it to improve our lifestyle can help us survive.

On the other hand, there are also certain disadvantages to this issue. First and foremost, talking about this issue somehow creates a divided nation. We know for a fact that not everyone is ready to embrace LGBT. Most people are still very conservative, or shall I say, too close-minded.

In connection to this, since there's no unity, then it could result to some public demonstrations or riots. Although there are laws to avoid this to happen, still people, most especially from a democratic country, take advantage of their freedom of speech. They just go to the streets scream their demands, which most of the time results to violence. This is not a good sight to see by the children and the young ones. Finally, the worst thing that could happen is an increase of the number of LGBT. Though accepting and recognizing their rights should be done, still, practically speaking, a country benefit more from what straight people can do. Even if we start giving the LGBT the same previlege, it's still a living truth that building a strong reputation is important in gaining prestige. Another thing is, there are cultures and traditions that must not be changed, such as building a family. For instance, same sex marriage greatly affect the population. If a country's birth rate slows down, then there's a tendency of extinction. If we fully support the LGBT, this will encourage more and more of them to go out. So, what will happen to the future generation?
