1) "As you move to the left, the atomic radius becomes bigger since each following energy level is further from the nucleus than the last." Is this statement true? Why?Please explainnnnn
2) Why is this (F<B<Li) the order of increasing atomic radius in those three elements? Explain your answer in terms of electron shielding and effective nuclear charge pleasee
3) Why is this (F<Cl<Ba) the order of increasing atomic radius in those three elements? Explain your answer in terms of electron shielding and effective nuclear charge pleaseee
1-Yes this statement is true . As we move from right to left in the periodic table the nuclear charge decreases and The attraction of the valance electron with nucleus become less. That's why the atomic radius increases to the left side. In last if we take the example of Li and F the size of fluorine is less than the Li because greater number of electron causes more attraction with nucleus result in the increase of the nuclear charge.
2 -This is the order of increasing atomic radius Li has greater atomic radius than B which has greater atomic radius than fluorine. Li has one valance electron that show more shielding and less nuclear charge and in B 3 valance electron present that have more attraction with nucleus and more nuclear charge as compared to Li .In F there 7 valance electron having maximum nuclear charge that causes decrease of atomic radius. The given order is from right to left. All the elements belong to same period. Li>B>F this shows that moving in the same period from left to right there is increase of regular atomic number but due to more attraction of electron with nucleus atomic radius decreases from left to right.
3-The given order F<Cl<Ba shows that F and Cl belongs to same group and we know that from top to bottom in a group the atomic radius increases due to which F has 2 shell and F has less atomic radius ,more nuclear charge and less shielding effect. In Cl there are 3 shells and it has greater atomic radius than F due to more shielding of electrons and less nuclear charge. Ba belongs to second group and present at the last of this group. As in group the trend of atomic radius in group increases from top to bottom. so it has maximum size among the given order.
