1) What can American parents learn from how other cultures think about parenting? 

2) Provide two examples of how your own cultural values and beliefs (e.g. parental ethnotheories) affect the way you parent your child(ren) or will parent in the future. 

A. I think parents can learn alot of from other cultures about parenting. Other cultures have so many good ideas about keeping kids safe, bottle feeding vs. breast-feeding, potty training, teaching kids to read and socialize, etc, and it's always good to get a new perspective or a new, fresh idea on parenting.

Each culture is unique and special, and these differences can always help parents to become a better parent by learning from and with one another, by keeping an open mind and learning from each other. I think we are all special, and each culture learns can open their heart and learn from each other to make us all better.

B. Two of my own beliefs that have influenced me:

a. I was raised with a traditional way of learning to dress myself and to pick out my own clothes, and given alot of choices. I was raised in a Caucasian, middle-class household, and I will carry these to any kids I will have. Choices have been important for me, as my parents valued my opinion and were respectful for me.

b. I was also raised also with a traditional method of going to school and then doing my homework, and listening to and respecting my elders. This made me aware of respect for elders, and I value this in my own childhood, and will carry this on, as well. My school was all about respect, and I heard this at home, as well,and was always taught to say please and thank you, which are paramount to me, as well.
