Jiang Jieshi was a member of the Chinese Nationalist Party; a political and military leader until 1975 (although with reduced Chinese influence after the Communist success on mainland China in 1949).

Jiang Jieshi was involved in the overthrow of the Qing Dynasty and lead the unification of China under the Nationalist Party. With the Success of the Communist Party, Jiang Jieshi retreated to Taiwan from where he claimed (and was recognized within the United Nations as) the legitimate spokesman for China until his death in 1975.
