The US Budget deficit and debt

1. how would you rank these twin problems in terms of the most serious problems we face as a country:

a. At or near the most significant problem we face; immediate action required

b. Near the top; among the new administration's top priorities

c. One among many serious problems

d. Something we have and can continue to deal with

e. Not a big deal

2. by most indications, balancing the budget will require some dramatic action for several years - that many affect all citizens. Are you willing to support significant reductions in government spending and increase in taxes over many years that will certainly be necessary to balancing the budget (which is only the first step In paying off the debt) ?

3.While it is clearly a problem when a presidential candidate with the fewer votes wins the presidency, do you believe that the US needs to abolish or reform the Electoral College? Do you believe that states should have some role in electing a president or should the election be determined solely by a national popular vote?

  • a) At or near the most significant problem we face; immediate action required.
  • The best step in balancing our national budget will be through reducing the federal spending, for example in the wage bill. Increasing taxes so as to generate additional revenues will seriously impact the welfare of the lower-income classes and the poor, a thing that would transform into the budgetary adjustment making no sense at all. The main aim of the budget is to relieve the people of their burden while catering for national projects,
  • In my opinion, i suppose the states should cease having the key role in determining the presidency. Instead, the people through majority or popular votes should be. The repeated trend whereby a candidate wins the popular votes but loses the election in the electorate count, is due to the fact that partisan politics and political affiliations, as well as an often involvement of foreign powers (as with the case of the 2016 election when Vladmir's Russia was said to have contributed to Trump's win in the Electorate) plays a key role. This, therefore masks the impact and the voice of the common people in the election of the president. Note that the electorate's 538 votes are distributed across the states on the basis of population. At times, those states with more of such votes tend to be affiliated to one side of the political divides. Higher chances of favoritism to the candidate on this political side, no doubt, exists.
