Benefits

1. It is child-centered. This embraces children's individual differences, encourages active learning and promotes deep understanding ( Baum $Geist 2005)
2. Positive classroom environment which ensurers safe and secure place for children and families. When the " classroom environment is hazard free and routines are predictable, children can navigate the program with confidence" (kostelnik, Rupiper, soderman $ Whiren, 2015)
3. DAP is socially and culturally appropriate, therefore its imperative that we must get to know children and families within their community and culture.Educators that are engaged in DAP "work hard to learn about cultural beliefs and children's families because they understand that the more similar expectations are between home and the early childhood setting, the more productively children learn"(kostelnik, Rupiper, soderman $ Whiren, 2015)

challenges

1. Standardized testing is a challenge because it is difficult to implement developmentally appropriate practices
2. Unsupportive co-workers, administration and families.
3. Lack of materials and budget (Adcock $ Patton, 2001; Nelson, 2000)
