Amendment is a correction of detail, it also implies continuance of the general plan and purpose of the law, with corrections to better accomplish its purpose.

Under the common interpretation of the Constitution, amendments can be proposed by one of three methods:

• a People's Initiative,
• a Constituent Assembly or
• a Constitutional Convention.

What are the steps to pass an amendment

Step 1: Two-thirds of both houses of Congress pass a proposed constitutional amendment.

This sends the proposed amendment to the states for ratification.

Step 2: Three-fourths of the states ratify the proposed amendment, either by their legislatures or special ratifying conventions.
