Microsoft Windows has existed in one form or another since 1985, and it remains the most popular operating system for home and office computers.
Advantages
Support for all hardware: As windows OS is used by 95% of users so most of the hardware vendors make drivers for windows.
Software support: Windows platform is best suited for game and software developers
Ease of use: All versions of Microsoft Windows have something common in it which makes users easy to shift from one version to another

3.Linux Operating System
Unlike many other operating systems, development on Linux isn't led by any one company. The operating system was created by Finnish programmer Linus Torvalds in 1991. Nowadays, programmers from all over the world collaborate on its open source code and submit tweaks to the central kernel software and other programs.
Advantages
1.FREEDOM!
Most Linux distros are free..... users do not need to pay for a copy, but this is only one aspect of freedom enjoyed by Linux users! In addition, Linux distros can be freely downloaded and legally installed on as many computers as you want and freely.
2.LINUX IS LESS VULNERABLE TO COMPUTER MALWARE!
Because most computer malware are designed to attack Windows (often through Active X which is not typically found in Linux) the odds are considerably less for Linux to be infected with a virus than Windows [2]. The same holds true with spyware, trojans, and worms.
3.LINUX IS VERY STABLE!
Linux systems rarely crash, and when they do, the whole system normally does not go down. The "blue screen of death" familiar to Windows users is not a worry for Linux users
Disadvantages
1.MANY WINDOWS PROGRAMS WILL NOT RUN IN LINUX.
iTunes, Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer and many other Windows programs will not run natively in Linux.
2.THERE IS A LEARNING CURVE FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE NEW TO LINUX.
Despite this, most Linux distros, especially the major ones, are very intuitive and user-friendly.
