What does the saying "writing to learn is not learning to write" mean to you? How could your meaning support middle school/high school teachers in content areas other than ELA as it pertains to this saying?

 

Learning to write involves acquiring skills in pre-writing planning, drafting and revising as well as transcription skills such as punctuation, capitalization, spelling and handwriting. It differs from writing to learn in that, writing to learn equips the learners with the kills to learn subject matter, clarify and organize their thoughts as well as improving their ability to retain the content learnt with the help of writing as the key tool.

Writing to learn simplifies teachers' work in that it makes it possible for the learners to make more sense of the subject they are learning at individual level and relate new concepts to their own daily lives.
