In a short paper (no more than four pages) students will identify and define a research problem focus area. The area of focus should involve teaching and learning and should focus on a potential problem area of your intended practice. The area of focus is something with in your span of control. It should be something that you are passionate about and something that you would like to change or improve. From this focus you will develop a proposed research question.
Students will identify the following:
What is the problem and why is it a problem?
What is the situation you want to change or improve?
Why is this important?
What evidence do you have that this is an important issue?
Who is affected and to what extent?
What is the potential benefit of this research?
What are the theories that support your approach?
Finally, students will develop the situation they intend to investigate by stating their research question and by predicting how and why critical factors might affect the outcome.
