Online classes, as brought about by the pandemic, is an ongoing issue for debate today. This particular mode of learning affect the society today as to how it poses exclusivity in the access to education. It seems that education can only be accessible to those who are financially capable since online classes require a lot of resources including equipment, internet, conducive space for learning, and so much more. Students who do not have the capability to afford these, therefore, become left behind. The issue that could be forwarded in this context is, should online classes be abolished and academic freeze be implemented?

What is your stance on this issue? Why?

It is very much more morally validating to agree that online classes be abolished and academic freeze should be implemented since the main goal of education, which is to allow students learn an prepare them for their future, is not being met with the systems that are being adapted right not. It is important to admit that online classes pose way more challenge than ever compared to the normal classes we used to have before. Aside from what has been mentioned in the first item, online classes, do not meet the learning expectation and competencies required from the students because of time-constraints, participant limitation, and so much more issues. Again, the main point of education is not really being targeted with this new mode of learning and it just economically, personally, physically, and mentally pain students and teacher alike. Therefore, considering academic freeze would be a more a good decision for the government. What is one or two years of delay when everything and everyone are really delayed because of the pandemic? What is one or two years of delay when the mental and economical health of students and teachers are prioritized?

This particular phenomenon and change in the Education department was brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. Although the effort the Department of Education in planning and continuing he system to thrive should not be discredit, it is also very important to realize that these efforts do not actually solve the problem but rather make it worse.

What is one policy that can be put into place to solve this problem?

The consideration of Academic Freeze is a good candidate in resolving this issue. By implementing academic freeze and focusing on how to combat the pandemic instead, the nation will be able to get through the pandemic and therefore will be able to go back to normal and then the appropriate adjustments and making ups can be done.

By abolishing online classes and starting academic freeze, the welfare of students and teachers can be taken care of. All students can actually prepare for when the normal classes will begin instead of sacrificing their learning just to cope up to the new normal, and this goes with the teachers. Without immediate action regarding this suggestion, students will continue to go with the flow in the new educational system without really learning anything, some students may actually de deprived of their right to education, and the education department will keep on losing its point.
