• A client with substance-induced psychotic disorder related to substance intoxication.

Substance/ medication-induced psychotic disorder is characterized by hallucinations and delusions because of direct effects of substance or ending from a substance in the absence of delirium. This is the name of diagnosis of alcohol or drug-induced psychosis.  Psychosis is a risky condition of the mental which is associated with a person losing contact with reality, to a greater or lesser extent, and is usually associated with specific mental illnesses like schizophrenia. Some of the symptoms are;

• Hallucinations
• Delusions
• Dissociation
• Disordered thinking.

When a nurse is giving diagnosis of it, he usually check so as to ensure that there no psychosis before the use of alcohol, drugs or medication thought to be responsible this is because there are different types of psychosis and if the symptoms were there before the substance use, it is not the substance/medication-induced type of psychosis.
