HE PAPERS MUST BE THREE (3) TYPED PAGES, AND THE BODY OF THE PAPER NEEDS TO BE ABOUT THE ACTUAL MUSIC ITSELF.  IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS, REFER TO THE "CONCERT REVIEW GUIDELINES" HANDOUT I POSTED HERE ON THE ANNOUNCEMENTS PAGES.  Please read through this entire announcement--a couple paragraphs below you will see 2 sample papers to give you an idea of how to write.  And if this next paragraph doesn't appeal to you, read on for many more ideas.

This was my idea from last year in the spring:

Coronavirus playlist:  "Now---what to do about your two concert review papers?  Obviously there are no live concerts.  So I have an idea:  Last week in our Broward newpaper, there was a cool list of South Florida bands and songs that you could watch on YouTube or on the bands' websites.  It was called "The South Florida Coronavirus Dinner Party Playllist."  You can find all 25 songs on Spotify, but if you're like me and don't have Spotify, you can also just read the article and google bands that you like and the songs should come up.  Take at least 3 songs total, and review them just like you'd review a concert.  You may have to use several different bands to get 3 decent songs, or you could just stick with one concert, if they play a variety of songs.   (Or feel free to review more than 3 songs, as long as the paper is three full pages long.)   Each concert paper will count for 50 points, and should be 3 full pages, double-spaced.  Here is the link to the newspaper article:  https://www.sun-sentinel.com/entertainment/events/go-guide-blog/fl-go-guide-weekend-things-to-do-coronavirus-playlist-20200325-hcqkynfty5bffpcdo7brehbeiq-story.html.  The bands that I personally would listen to are: Gold Dust Lounge; Lemon City Trio; Palo (featuring several MDC professors); Spam Allstars and Nicole Henry.  (I've heard most of them live already.)  Any questions, please feel free to write me:  knagy@mdc.edu."

So that's one idea--go to the above website and find the SFL bands you want to listen to, and watch them on YouTube, that way you get to see who's playing, what they're playing.  Try to use bands that are larger and have a singer as well so you will have lots of material to write about.  ****NOTE TO SELF AND TO STUDENTS:  THIS IDEA DOESN'T SEEM TO WORK AS WELL THESE DAYS AS THE OTHER EXAMPLES BELOW.  IF YOU WANT TO TRY ANYWAY, TAKE THE MOST INTERESTING SONGS AND REVIEW THEM.  I ADDED THEM LAST SPRING BECAUSE THEY WERE ALL LOCAL BANDS, AND WE WERE SO USED TO SEEING LOCAL BANDS "LIVE."  SOME OF THE CONCERTS LISTED BELOW ARE ACTUALLY MUCH MORE INTERESTING....

Secondly, I am attaching samples of 2 good concert papers written in the past years, for you to get an idea of what I want.  Apologies that these are separate scans for each page.  Here they are:  Concert paper #1 p. 1     p. 2   p. 3   p. 4   Concert paper sample #2  Sample concert paper #2 p. 1   p. 2   p. 3   p .4
