I have mentored and coached many people throughout my career, especially the students who feel that they have lost hope in proceeding with their education. There are several skills that I usually apply that have helped me to achieve my goals, including; first is being an example; whereas a mentor, I ought to act as a professional with ethics and proper morals. Secondly, I like to listen to and support my mentee. A good mentor should create an open platform where their clients can clearly express themselves without feeling discriminated against. Additionally, we should understand the client’s non-verbal cues, stresses, doubts, and concerns; however, we should not interrupt the client’s conversations without adequately listening. Stephenson & Sampson (2019).

Thirdly I usually attempt to expose my clients to new opportunities are solutions to their problems. I often attempt to push the mentees from their comfort and encourage them to engage in new activities. However, my mentorship strategies do not encourage unprofessional behavior from the mentee. The method I will start using is promoting client autonomy by giving them several approaches and to select from; with adequate support, people engage in new activities that they never thought they could have accomplished within a short duration.

What I would like to stop is setting unrealistic goals and begin to follow up strategies. Sometimes I often find myself setting goals that are unrealistic or unachievable within the deadline. I will solve this problem by first engaging my mentees in goal setting and developing adequate research to determine whether my objectives are achievable or not. Secondly, I will begin creating follow-ups for my employees. This will include understanding whether the mentee has continued to apply the skills learned or not. Finally, I think that my short and long-term strategies are achievable, especially after developing strategies to eliminate all difficulties that the studies face in classrooms, allowing them to communicate with me when they face challenges and create follow-up strategies to track student’s progress after the mentorship platform. Lewinski et al. (2017).
