Directions: Imagine you're able to shrink down to the microscopic level and board a ship that will take you through the vast network of neurons inside your brain. Your job is to record what you see and explain how one message moves from one neuron to the next. You must use all of the words in the word bank. Try to have fun with it and explain it as simply as possible.
How can I explain the Neural communication using all of the words below?
Word Bank:
•Axon
•Action Potential
•Axon terminal
•Neurotransmitters
•Synaptic Gap
•Reuptake
•Dendrites
•Receptor Sites
•Firing
•Sending Neuron
•Receiving Neuron
•One example of a neurotransmitter
I am inside the brain and I can see action potential all over. I see neurotransmitters being sent neuron to neuron. The sending neuron fires the neurotransmitter through the axon terminal to the synaptic gap where the receiving neuron's dendrites receive the signal. The dendrites receive the signal through the receptor sites and it travels the signal down the axon in order to send it to another neuron. I see reuptake by other neurons for the neurotransmitters that was recycled. I learn that serotonin is the neurotransmitter being sent by the neurons. Serotonin stabilizes our mood, feelings of well-being, and happiness.
