Introduction
Endocrine disorders are illnesses that are related to the body's endocrine glands. According to Falchetti et al. (2019), the body's endocrine system produces hormones that enable the body to regulate processes, including fluid balance, virilization, weight control, and growth. Endocrine disorders result when the endocrine system produces excess or too little endocrine hormones leading to hormone imbalance or lesions development in the endocrine system. Besides, decreased or increased endocrine hormone levels can be caused by endocrine gland tumor, genetic disorder, endocrine feedback system disorders, and failure of one or more glands to stimulate other glands to release hormones. These disorders include diabetes mellitus, Cushing’s syndrome, Graves ’ disease, and Addison's disease. Falchetti et al. (2019)
Description of the Disease Process
Type 2 diabetes is a chronic illness that results from the accumulation of high glucose levels or sugar in the bloodstream. Usually, the hormone inulin helps the body transfer the glucose from the bloodstream to the cells, converted it into energy. Type 2 diabetes occurs when the level of glucose or sugar in the blood is too high (Roden & Shulman, 2019). The failure of the body to use insulin hormone efficiently forces the pancreas to overwork to produce more insulin. As a result, the pancreas cells are damaged, and they can no longer produce sufficient insulin. Failure of the pancreas to produce enough insulin and inefficient use of insulin in the body leads to glucose build-up in the bloodstream. Type 2 diabetes is common to individuals in all age groups. Some of the predisposing factors are obesity or overweight and family history.
Health Promotion measures
Some numerous measures and approaches can be adapted to attain health promotion. These measures address behavioral risk factors which facilitate the development of chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes. The first measure is the use of diet to control type two diabetes; since nutrition is a crucial aspect of a healthy lifestyle in diabetes patients. Following a healthy diet enables type 2 diabetes patients to maintain glucose levels in their blood in the target range (Sami et al., 2017). Hence, diabetes patients must be careful about what they eat or drink because watching their diet is crucial to managing the disease. Diabetes patients should choose when they eat and hat they eat carefully in accordance with specialist recommendations or guidelines to keep their blood sugar level within range. Individuals living with type 2 diabetes should limit all food types that are high in saturated fats, excessive salts, and beverages containing added sugar.
The second health promotion for type 2 diabetes is physical exercise. Regular physical exercises have many benefits to the body, including controlling glucose levels in the blood. Type 2 diabetes patients usually have a high glucose level in their blood because the body does not produce enough insulin or fails to use the insulin efficiently. Therefore, regular exercises are important to thee patients to help them reduce the glucose level in their bloodstream. Physical exercises help the body to convert glucose into energy without using the hormone insulin. Besides, if the body is insulin resistant, regular physical activities make the body use insulin more effectively. The third health promotion measure is the use of medications. Type 2 diabetes patients can use the medications prescribed by the doctor to increase the amount of insulin produced by the liver and reduce the amount of sugar released into the bloodstream from the liver. Second, increase cells sensitivity and response to the hormone insulin. Lastly, reduce carbohydrates absorption from the intestines, thus reducing blood glucose level. The last health promotion measure is to use a glucose monitor to monitor blood sugar levels at home. High levels of glucose in the blood do not show any symptoms until they are above 200. Hence, it is crucial for diabetes to regularly check their blood glucose level to prevent it from getting too high.
How Health Promotion Improve clients Health and Avoid Complications
Health promotion enables individuals and communities to develop behaviors that improve the performance of all body organs and enhance their ability to adjust to the dynamic environment (Sharma, 2016). It eliminates or minimizes risks that increase the probability that an individual develops type 2 diabetes or other chronic diseases. Besides, it enables individuals living with diabetes to manage it and to prevent their blood glucose levels from getting extremely high. Health promotion helps to improve health services to the elderly most of home has limited access to quality healthcare. Patients who implement health promotion understand the importance of behavior and lifestyle in improving their health status. Hence, they modify their behavior in relation to the factors that increase the risk of developing diseases. Patients who do not implement health promotion are likely to be less concerned about the impact of their behavior and lifestyle in preventing diseases and complications.
Final Reflection
I have learned that health promotion improves the quality of all individuals and communities and reduces complications and premature deaths. Physical exercises and nutrition are essential components of a healthy lifestyle to type 2 diabetes patients. The two lifestyle components can be used together with medications to manage blood sugar levels in diabetes patients. Health promotion is about improving health knowledge in the community and enhancing skills, behavior, and attitudes. In future practice, I will implement health promotion to reduce the cost of treatment for patients. Effective implementation of health promotion helps patients, medical facilities, insurance companies, and the state to reduce financial and human costs spent on treatment. Besides, I will make the necessary efforts to spread awareness about healthy behavior and lifestyle in the community.
