Short- controlled temper and outbursts, relief of emotional strain and frustration

Logic Model

The assessment of behavior problems is composed of three parts-defining behavior, observing behavior and recording behavior.  The goal of the assessment is to know specifically what the behavior problems are and what in the environment affect them.

Behavior problems are assessed so that successful interventions, which is geared to change the behaviors, is possible.  The behavior modification process is composed of three related stages- assessment, intervention and evaluation (LeBow, 1973).

Causes of Problems and Unmet Needs

Part of teaching behavior modification is teaching parents and staff workers to become better behavior observers and modifiers.  Behavior modification requires full support and participation of consistent and appropriate skills to deter negative behavior (LeBow, 1973).  This includes understanding the reason for the behavior.  A behavior is a reaction to an emotion that cannot be effectively expressed and is delivered as a maladaptive behavior.  Giving emotional and communicative outlets for these emotions can assist in eliminating the undesired behaviors and outbursts (Corrigan, 1995).

Short term and Long Term Outcomes

Short term outcomes of behavior modification include controlled emotional outburst and relief of emotional strain and frustration.  Long term goals are behavior modification and understanding and gaining social support and skills.  These goals are difficult to obtain with maladaptive behaviors.

Outcomes

Soldiers are not receiving proper diagnosis of PTSD or treatment after deployments.

Soldiers need assessment for proper diagnosis and treatment.

Going periods of time without being assessed after trauma.

1. receiving assessment and proper diagnosis

2.Cognitive Processing Therapy to address the trauma and the way it effects everyday thinking.

Short-term outcomes: Identify triggers and use skills to change thinking process.

Long-term goal -use adaptive strategies outside of treatment to improve overall functioning and quality of life.

Logic models are a representation of a problem, the causes and interventions activities that produce short term and long-term results. Logic models are common and are used for program planning and evaluation. (Randolph,2010).  The intervention I chose to address PTSD in veterans is Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). CPT can be used to provide the soldier with both short-term results and long-term results of reducing PTSD symptoms (APA, 2017). Clients use CPT to help process trauma and learn triggers that effects the way the client may think about themselves, others, and the world.
