Groupthink does not lead to good decisions. Describe a time when you participated in a group decision that was not effective. The situation can involve family, work, or a social group. Was the problem easily solved, difficult to solve, or not solved at all? What characteristics of groupthink were involved?
My friends and I were supposed to have a double celebration for me and my friend's birthday party. We already planned the place where we'll spend the day but I was not allowed to go to that place as it is too far. I made amends to go to another place that is near. They reacted negatively saying that we should go to the designated place as the place I suggested was too near. We had arguments for a while but came to a decision where we parted ways even though some are still not okay with the decision. I went to another place with two of my friends where one is not included in our circle. The other group went on to the place they wanted. When we met in school, they said sorry and gave me gifts as a way to express their regret.
The problem was difficult to solve and parted ways with a heavy heart but after meeting in school, it got solved after saying they were sorry and tried to make it up with me. Invulnerability, rationalization, pressure, self-deception, and insularity were involved in our dispute.
