Explain how to measure and monitor the quality of care delivered and the outcomes achieved by an Advanced Practice Nurse.
Answer:
The quality of care delivered and the outcomes achieved by an Advanced Practice Nurse is measured through reflecting the health care service or rather the intervention of the patient health status. For instance, the quality of care which is achieved by the nurse can be done through evaluating the number or percentage of the patients who die while undergoing surgery or after the surgery is performed. This will definitely show the extend at which the APN administered care to the patient because when the surgeries are poorly performed, automatically there will be higher mortality rates. Also the number of complications or the infections that are acquired in the hospital measure the kind of quality care that is administered to the patients.
Other measures include;
Assessing the number of patients compared to that of the physicians.
The rate at the electronic medical records or the medication order entry systems are used.
