According to Kumar and Singh (2019), the healthcare sector has been confronted with managing the heterogeneous data or big data generated. However, considering the volume of the data produced by the various analytical systems, cloud computing offers the most practical approach to addressing the storage and dissemination of the data. The approach allows for remote access and collection of data with a central cloud computing infrastructure offering the needed computing and storage capacity. As previously mentioned, the healthcare system significantly contributes to big data with the large volumes of data produced. However, the healthcare sector must adopt a digital approach to data collection and analysis to foster big data. In other words, by incorporating EHR (Electronic Health Records), machine learning, and predictive analytics in healthcare, it can recognize and address irregularities in the dataset collected and in current databases.

By taking advantage of the technology to process big data, Kumar and Singh (2019) recognize that the exploitation of traditional data management techniques cannot address complex and unstructured data. With upgrades to the current healthcare system, it will have the needed resources to handle the upsurge in bio-information resulting in higher quality patient care. Other benefits include reduction of costs which can be transferred to the patient resulting in low-cost health services and increased performance from the support services.

Overall, the healthcare system is transforming into a complex industry, and without the adoption of critical systems, the implications would be severe. Kumar and Singh (2019) have demonstrated with statistical information that the healthcare sector is continuously generating heterogeneous data in large volumes and at a rapid pace.
