The development of agriculture had a huge impact on society as we know it today. Long ago our ancestors lived a nomadic life, having to go from place to place, gathering and hunting for food. But once they learned how to grow their own food, they started settling down in one place and forming villages. This eventually led to an increase in population and eventually to the formation of villages, governments & laws that regulate food production.

Agricultural intensification is important to be able to respond to the growing food demands in both developed and developing countries. However, it also has its disadvantages, specifically around sustainability & biodiversity. We need to consider whether the benefits of intensification outweigh the costs it will have on the environment. I think it would make more sense in the long run to respond to food security concerns with less intensive forms of agriculture in order to spare the environment from irreparable damage.
