Health Economics "Medical care is so special that normal economic forces don't apply." Comment.

I would generally disagree with this statement. Medical care is a service just like many others in the market. The main difference between medical care and other services is the high inelasticity of demand for care. Since many patients need care and may not have the luxury of shopping around, they must pay what they are charged. Besides the elasticity of demand, medical care is very similar to other services provided in which normal economic forces apply.
