Academic and Professional Interview

You must find a qualified professional who can grant you a short interview regarding a career or profession you are interested in entering. You will conduct and interview and summarize the information you gathered into a short memo.

Interviewee: 1. Sufficient years of experience and level of education.

2. No one with a close personal or working relationship to yourself

3. Not a teacher unless your interest is in teaching

Interview: 1. May be conducted in person or over the phone or live via web chat

2. Does not need to be recorded or transcribed, nor are any notes required to be turned in.

Paper: 1. Should be about 1 to 3 pages in length, typed

2. double spaced, 10-12pt font

3. Should include a cover page with your name, date, interviewee name and job title, class information

1st Paragraph: 1. Background information about interviewee

2. Background information about position or career

3. Your interest in this career or job

2nd Paragraph: 4. Questions related to what you should be doing now in the way of classes, experience, activities, etc...

5. Qualities and skills that need to be developed

6. What you should be doing now, advantage

3rd Paragraph: 7. Technical skills?

8. What communication skills are needed? (Get plenty of information for this topic, such was what different communication skills? With whom or what types of people do you have to communicate with? What kinds of problems or tasks do you have to accomplish where good communication is important?

9. What other aspects of the job are you interested in asking about?

4th Paragraph: How will you use what you have learned from this interview to better prepare for a career in _________.
