Another group targeted by Hitler were the Jehovah's Witnesses. They were targeted from 1933 to 1945. The Nazis persecuted the Jehovah's Witnesses because of their refusal to swear loyalty to their government and to serve in the armed forces. The Nazis perceived this behavior as politically driven and subversive. The Jehovah's Witnesses were given the choice to avoid persecution and any forthcoming harassment or personal harm by adhering to the Nazi regime's authority and by serving in their armed forces, dissimilar to the Jews and Romas who were targeted for racial reasons. As any sort of submission to worldly governments would violate their religious beliefs, majority of JWs faced persecution, subjected to torture in the concentration camps and even death, because they refused to go against their faith.
