Value-based healthcare (also known as "accountable care") focuses on providing high-quality care rather than seeing a large number of patients. Value-based care is described by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) as a payment scheme that rewards providers based on the level of care they offer to Medicare beneficiaries. These services first appeared in 2008 and 2010, after the passage of legislation such as the Affordable Care Act (ACA), which placed a renewed emphasis on the standard of care. Several value-based government benefit schemes were also approved by this law.

The Quality Payment Program was established by the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA) (QPP). Prior to MACRA, hospitals were compensated for providing treatment to Medicare recipients using a formula that favored volume-based care, or treating as many patients as possible. Payments are dependent on results, or the quality and value of treatment provided to patients, under the QPP.

• Coordination of treatment for mentally sick and elderly individuals.
• Greater access to specialized treatment and concentrated referral (e.g., incontinence consultations, home parenteral feeding clinics, and sleep apnea evaluations) to supplement the care of doctors and other professionals. There will be major changes in the health-care delivery system.

The following factors will have an effect on your practice in the next 3-5 years:
