The early environmentalism differed from the modern environmental movement as brought about by how they tried to deal with the pressing problems during their specific eras. The early environmentalism that flourished in the first decades of the 20th century was usually referred to as conservationism. During the early times, environmentalists focused more on the efficient use of natural resources. The environmental movement in the 1960s and 1970s focused more on the preservation of the environment as they realized post-World War II how the developing economy negatively affects the environment. In effect, people have fought for laws regarding preservation of forests and natural parks. However, as years passed, modern environmental movement has now taken a turn towards pollution control. This is because modern societies now have enormous industrial development which resulted to increase in toxic and bad effluent which pollutes the lands, air, and water. This is why modern environmentalists focuses more on mitigating pollution especially in the face of global warming and climate change today.
