1.) How does the heart maintain homeostasis?

Answer: Homeostasis is the ability to regulate and maintain relative equilibrium to have a stable internal status even if there are external changes outside the organism. So the heart pumps and circulate the blood all throughout the body. Since there are trillion of cells found within our body and they need oxygen and nutrients to function all the time and especially when the body does vigorous activities that requires a lot of energy, the heart has a crucial role in maintaining homeostasis, the reason why it is felt beating faster whenever we run. The mechanism involves the sympathetic system sending out hormones to increase the heart rate to provide more oxygen for cellular respiration, and the heart sending out blood into the muscles which means breathing rate is also increased to suffice the insufficient oxygen and to expel the metabolic waste.

2.) What happens if the heart is unable to maintain homeostasis?

-The lack of homeostasis in the heart can cause fatality. When the heart is in a damaged state i.e. heart attack, it will not be able to redirect the blood flow efficiently causing the cells and tissue to be depraved of nutrients for them to commence cellular metabolism. Symptoms can be a low blood pressure.
