Discuss America's transportation revolution in the first half of the 1800s. What role did government play in the development of roads, canals, railroads, and steamboats? 

 

In the 1800s there was development of roads, canals, railroads and steamboats which brought about transportation revolution where state competed for the privilege of having the most advanced transport systems , waterways and a growing network of railroads connected the frontier with the eastern cities, produce moved on small boats along canals and rivers from the farms to the ports, large steamboats carried goods from port to port and railway expanded to connect towns which provided faster transport for everyone.

Roads and canals, there was widespread building of roads and turnpikes where construction began in 1811 on the cumberland roads, a highway that connected maryland and Illinois. Canals mania swept the United States in the first half of the nineteenth century.

Railroads- in the late 1820s , steam locomotives began to compete with horse-drawn locomotives . towards the middle of the century , railroad construction kicked into high gear and eager investors quickly formed a number of railroad companies

The role of the government was,, the federal government funded the important artery to the west in the case of roads and canals , and began building turnpikes
