Kennedy’s Post:

Hello you guys. My name is Kennedy Nicholson and I am a transfer student from Louisiana Tech.  Me and my family are from Shreveport, Louisiana but i was originally born in Killeen, Texas. I have two family members that attend Wiley College: one is a freshman and the other is in the adult program. I have decided to complete my last year online instead of returning to LA Tech for my last year. I wanted to finish online given the circumstances of the pandemic. I prefer online school versus going in person. I enjoy being in bed, being in my room, doing work. I hate going to class and sitting waiting for it to be over. I enjoy knowing i get to go to an HBCU.

My major is interdisciplinary studies, online, and i enjoy this major because it has a wide array of subjects to get a feel for student to choose from. I like the idea that i get a feel of everything within the major. Idid transfer in with a lot of credits which is great. At Tech I majored in Kinesiology , then realized it isn't what I want to do with my life anymore. I wanted to be a Sport Psychologist, but it no longer appeals to me. I know want to be my own boss, working as an entrepreneur, creating my own schedules. The idea of living that life excites me. Being financially free is my biggest goal in life. I at this point want the achievement of having a bachelor's in case i want to pursue getting my Master's in business. I expect live the life I manifest.

After college I plan to work salary for a short time to fund my side hustles. I plan to travel, move into my own place, and live life before i even consider settling down and getting married. my major will basically just contribute to me having a degree. I would like to get that accomplishment of having it. In this class my expectations are for it to be organized, easy to understand, and actually kind of fun to learn.

Kamryn’s post:

History is a very rich subject. It tells what has happened in human history and how a civilization has evolved into what it is today. There has always been this saying I heard that human history repeats itself, therefore if you are inlighten about past mistakes that others have made, you are less likely to follow in the footsteps of them. Human history has had a lot of hiccups in its lifetime. Whether that was when hygiene was believed to be not needed, or the enslavement of others to show power. The history that we know today especially as an African American in the United States is very misconstrued by the Aryan race. I’ve been trying to get more in touch with where I came from and it’s hard to trace back your people when we were slaves for 400 years. That’s the only history they want us to know. They don’t want us to know that our people were kings and queens before we were brought over. History itself is manipulated and written only one sided and not the whole picture. You tell a made up story for many generations and it keeps getting passed down eventually that will become the truth In someone’s eyes. I believe that that is what has happened to us. I've personally seen the history books try to act like enslavement, Jim Crow era, and segregation was so long ago when actually we still have people alive and breathing that had to endure those times. They will put pictures in black and white to make it seem as though things were ages ago but I realise the pictures are full of color and life. History is a touchy subject, from the beginning of school we are only taught what they want us to know not what really happen on those dark days for some people.

Shirley’s Post:

Learning human history is important in general because history help us to understand and link the past to the present. Everything has a beginning, and to learn and to get a better and broader understanding we have to know some history.  History gives a better understanding not only of ourselves, but of the world. History can provide the tools that are  essential for positive change in growth throughout the world. Politics, religion, beliefs, customs and  societies did not just appear. The topics that are of interest of the world today has history. To discuss or have full knowledge of anything it is vital to know it's history.  Without the knowledge  of history is like "having tunnel vision". There is a difference and knowing the present and understanding the present, without the history we are not seeing the entire picture. According to guides.lib "the three most important reasons for studying history is: to reveal past contributions of civilization, to connect the past to the present, and to memorize important dates, events, and people.

History helps us to understand who we are individuals. It gives us a sense of identity. History holds the answer to question we have about ourselves and our societies as to how and why we are who we are. Through history we can follow our past to our present day, giving us a understanding of how our society and identity has transformed overtime. History can help us to gain better insight on so we can respect and appreciate cultures and traditions that are not familiar to our own. History gives us the opportunity to learn from past mistakes. George Santayana was quoted as saying "Those that do not learn history are doomed to repeat it.
