A GameSwap membership costs $20 and includes one game per month for $5. Non-members can get one game a month for $7.
what is the independent variable and dependent variable for this? how do I get the system of equations made from this?
For the given problem, to determine which variable is the dependent or independent, first analyse the problem. Let there be 2 variables x and y where y will be the total cost and x be the number of games, the total cost changes depending on the number of games you will be playing, therefore the dependent variable is y or the cost.
The system of equations can be done by formulating equations using the problem. For members, there will be a membership fee of 20 dollars and the price per game will be 5 dollars while the price is 7 dollars for non-members. The first equation will then be y=5x+20 (member) and y=7x (non-member). If you graph those two equation, these lines will meet at the point (10,70) which means that at x=10 (or at the 10th game), the total cost for both the members and non-members will be 70 dollars.
