Activity 3 - “THE AWESOME PARENT”

It is important to promote healthy physical, cognitive, social and emotional growth in infancy and early childhood. Review Chapters 4 - 5 and complete Activity 3, The Awesome Parent. Your task as the “awesome parent” is to design two new toys that promote growth in each of these areas.

The first toy should be designed for “infants and toddlers - ages 0 - 3 years” and the second toy for “preschoolers and early school aged children - ages 4 - 8 years.”  You cannot use the same toy or design.  Each toy needs to be age appropriate and consider the child’s level of physical and motor development, sensory and perceptual development, cognitive and language development, and social and emotional development.

  • Create a Name for each toy.
  • Describe each toy in detail, i.e., it's appearance and functions, whether is it designed for a girl or boy or both.
  • Explain in detail how each toy is designed to promote positive physical, cognitive, social, and emotional growth.
