Prerequisites:

You will be using two Windows 10 VM's. (Not Windows Home Version)

Your 1st VM will need to have the following settings:

  • Name: 1st VM will be named VMONEXXX (XXX is ID number), 2nd VM name will be VMTWOXXX (XXX is ID number) both on Virtual software and inside operation system.
  • Create two accounts on each VM, one will be your ID number, second will be your Name. Create password for each account (Passwords needs to match on all VM's)
  • Admin account on 1st VM will be your ID number.
  • Admin account on 2nd VM will be your name. (non-admin account will be other account on each VM)
  • VM's will bet set to NAT under network settings.
  • Set your ID address on each VM:
  • VM one will be 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.0
  • VM two will be 192.168.1.2 255.255.255.0

Steps and Procedures:

  • On Your 1st VM, VMOne
  • Login with your admin account (your ID number);
  • You will create a folder on your VMOne desktop (name the folder Assignment7XXX where XXX is your ID number). Create one text file inside of the folder named VMOne, and add text to the file.
  • Share your folder
  • Set share permissions and NTFS permissions to allow the name account (example Billherbert) full access.
  • Turn on network discovery
  • Create a custom firewall rule allowing only 192.168.1.2/24 access to all ports, Name the firewall rule Assignment help 7
  • On Your 2nd VM, VMTwo
  • Turn on network discovery

Test your folder share:

  • On Your 2nd VM, VMTwo
  • Connect to the share on VMOne virtual machine
  • Modify the text file VMone inside the share
  • Create a new file in the shared folder called VMTwo
  • On Your 1st VM, VMOne virtual machine
  • login with your ID number
  • Open the folder on the desktop (should see both files)
  • Open the VMOne Text document and see your changes
