However, although imagination is important, this research will rely on the Alvesson metaphor framework as its major theoretical direction.

Self-identity based on Alvesson framework

Alvesson identifies seven metaphors that are vital in identifying self-identify. One of them is self-doubters which highlights anxiety and insecurity. In this case, an individual’s doubts their efficacy or self-worth through what goes around their life. In some instances, professionals tends to doubt their importance to company. In this case, the person constructing the identity is engaged in relatively more active attempts. They tend to struggle and fight through various contradictions and messiness looking for their sense of identity. In most instances, they tend to explore the concept of “Who am I?”.

The third metaphor Alvesson uses that is crucial for this assessment is Surfgers. The metaphor focuses on the determination of an individual’s structures, discourses and messiness that affect their lives. An individual’s becomes who they want at any particular moment. In this section, the individuals does no relay heavily on responding to the concern about who they are, but what or who do they need to be at a certain period or moment in time. Storytellers are another metaphor Alvesson framework uses to determine how they view the past, they go through their present and how they view their future.

The fifth metaphor is Strategists .They tend to craft a certain form of self that is then mobilized for the realization of collective and personal objective. As such, they tend to replace the question about who they are with what they want to become. Alvesson follows this metaphor with Stencils to establish people whose identifies are created by external forces to individuals. In other words, the person is subjectified, interpellated or scripted. The stencils focuses on not failing to determine how to adjust to what is needed, they only focus on the argument that “this is what I have to be”. They do not make any excuses by focus on what they must become in life. The final metaphor is Soliders which emphasizes on the compliance. The professionally committed zealot or the loyal soldier who tends to surrender their self-identify sense to the significance of the profession or the unit is classified using the Soliders, metaphor.
