I would identify the use of Drones. I chose this because I have experience in my department with identifying drones in the area that are not registered and managed to breech the perimeter of our facility walls. Civilians have used drones to drop contraband on the yard. As technology evolves though that is a great thing and a big step to ensuring the safety of everyone but there’s always going to be that one group that will turn improvement into something else to set the department back.

Drones are used to assist with finding inmates that manage to escape and to assist with facial recognition in different large groups and crime scenes. Though people feel this is a way for the government to invade on one’s privacy I feel this is a way to improve and deter crime. In everything that the department brings forth there will always be someone that will find a way to breech security and as a department we just need to remain steps ahead

A new technology that has controversial issues regarding police work is the use of drones. Some people feel like police using drones as a form of surveillance is an invasion of privacy, and misusing drones could result in evidence inadmissible in court because of the way it was acquired. Drones can collect data and images without drawing attention, leading many Americans to fear their Fourth Amendment right to privacy may be in jeopardy. We learned there is an ongoing tension over how much leeway the police should have in using technology and how much privacy the citizen should retain (Cox,2017). Drones have the potential to make policing easier, but they also come with a lot of risks and concerns for misuse. The community needs to be able to trust that police won’t use drones to spy on them or oause any other type of harm to them. Overall, good policies are key in making sure law enforcement’s use of drones do not violate citizen’s rights.
