This is an individual activity, and it will be the first step to visualizing data on your website

Subject:BusinessPrice: Bought3

This is an individual activity, and it will be the first step to visualizing data on your website. The purpose of this activity is to get used to finding data that will meet your needs. We will discuss the data you find to be sure that you'll be able to use it for your intended purposes.

Visit one of the sources in the "Data and Statistics" tab on the  course guide (Links to an external site.)  and use the resource to find a dataset that relates to your Healthy People topic. The dataset may be provided as a spreadsheet or a detailed table broken up into categories. If you find a chart with information you would like to display, be sure to find the original source of the data used in the chart (usually cited). Then go to and cite the actual dataset from which the charts were created.

Example and Expectations:

For example, if you are interested in reporting racial disparities of diabetes prevalence in Texas, you may want to use the  Texas BRFSS data (Links to an external site.)  (select Data Tables to see data - see example below) from the Texas Department of State Health Services. This data query system shows the number and percentage of people with and without diabetes broken down by age, sex, race/ethnicity, and other subgroups. So, as an example, I could make a chart showing the differences between diabetes rates across education levels using some of the data from this dataset.

Submit the following:

1. APA Reference: Create a reference to the dataset using the following format: Author. (Date). Title. Retrieved from URL Make sure the URL works and links to the dataset! If you used a query system (like above), provide the options you selected so that I can repeat the steps to find your data.

2. Description: Write a description of 150 words about the dataset, what variables are included, how the information was collected, and how you plan to use the dataset in your website. For example, "I plan to make a bar chart comparing the rates of diabetes for each racial/ethnic group in Texas."

1. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. (2016). Natality public-use data 2007-2014. http://wonder.cdc.gov/natality-current.html

2. Example 2: Article Reference. Use this format if the dataset was from a report or article. For this article, you can find the dataset as an attachment just before the references. Morgan, A. S., Dale, H. B., Lee, W. E., & Edwards, P. J. (2010). Deaths of cyclists in London: trends from 1992 to 2006. BMC Public Health, 10, 699.  http://doi.org/10.1186/1471-2458-10-699  (Links to an external site.)

Submission Information: Please submit by 23:59 (CT) on Sunday. It will be useful to consult with your group members to submit various datasets to be reviewed.
