Joel Osteen is a renowned American evangelist cum motivation speaker. He is a senior pastor and president of the Lakewood Church in the United States of America.  Osteen was born in 1963 in a family six siblings. His education background includes attending Oral Roberts University to study for a degree in radio and television communication which he did not complete. Osteen is married to Victoria IIoff, and they are blessed with two children. His breakthrough into the gospel industry came when he launched the Lakewood broadcast program.  Joel Osteen had in sometimes declined his father’s offer to preach and instead preferred to keep a low profile. However, the sudden death of his father in 1999, Osteen hid to the call.

 Lakewood Church is the biggest Protestant church in the US and is head offices are in Houston Texas. Besides, Joel Osteen is a televangelist with an estimated population of eight million viewers worldwide watching and listening to his sermons weekly.  The senior pastor owns The XM Satellite Radio that he uses to broadcast sermons on a regular basis. Besides, the preacher has written some gospel and motivational books. His books listed on the New York Times Best Selling books include, ‘Your Best Life Now: 7 Steps to Living at Your Full Potential. And ‘Become a Better You: 7 Keys to Improving Your Life Every Day ’.

In contrast to other preachers who make references to prepared sermons and speeches, Osteen uses a unique preaching style. His preparations involve memorizing sermons, verses from the Bible and drawing references to life testimonies. Apparently, this technique has seen the televangelist capture the attention of his audience. His preaching topics revolve around the love of God for humankind and the need to have a positive attitude towards life. By making analogies to ideal life situations, the preacher makes it easier for the congregation to understand Bible basics. Joel Osteen is known for not making political stands and is synonymous to avoiding political issues such as the one related to the universal health care.
