Overview

Maintenance data (2014 to 2018), Codes & Risk Matrix and Equipment details for four different boilers are provided.

Tasks with Assessment criteria)

1.0       Determine the following for each of the four boilers (1.5 x 4 = 6 marks)

    1. Actual Maintenance Cost incurred on annual basis for each types of maintenance (PM01, PM02, PM03, PM04, OP01, Project) for the duration 01.01.2014 to 31.12.2018
    1. Top three Functional Locations within each boiler with highest Reactive Maintenance Cost (PM04).
    1. Major causes for Reactive Maintenance on these Functional Locations.

Note : For 1.2 and 1.3, exclude the cost assigned to highest level FLOC (Boiler)

    1. Identify the Statutory Maintenance Plans (Maintenance Activity – STA) associated with each boiler, the (broad) scope and Frequency of tasks.
    1. Estimate Equivalent Unit Cost (EUC, $/hr) for each of the boilers, considering the total maintenance cost from 2014 till 2018.  (2 marks)

Following may be considered

  1. Capital cost is not considered
  2. Boiler A operates 8,500 hours in a year whereas B, C and D operate 5,000 hours a year
  3. Ratings in T/h of boilers given in Wilmar Dataset Summary 260819.ppt may be used
  4. Since this exercise is for comparison of boilers, either of the following approaches may be taken regarding maintenance spent from 2014 to 2018
    1. Future Value of spent (assuming 2019 = Year 0, all maintenance spent occurred in the past )
    2. NPV of spent (assuming 2013 = Year 0, all maintenance spent occurred in future)
    3. Interest Rate = 8%
    4. Number of Years for EAC/EUC Calculation = 5
  5. Discuss the performance of four boilers highlighting unique and common observations related to maintenance spent, affected Functional Locations, Causes for Reactive Maintenance, Statutory Maintenance Plans and EUC (Individual Task – Max 500 words, 2 marks)
