According to an article called "What is "quality improvement" and how can it transform healthcare," Paul Bataden and Frank Davidoff discuss how quality improvement can improve the healthcare system. Batalden and Davidoff conducted a study that found five characteristics in quality improvement. Those five characteristics include 1. Generalizable scientific evidence, 2. Particular context awareness, 3. Performance measurement, 4. Plans for change, and 5.  Execution of planned changes (Batalden and Davidoff, 2007). Acquiring this characteristic can be essential over the long run.

Evidence-based practice in nursing is an essential sector in the healthcare profession. Nurses are using more evidence-based practice in an attempt to improve the quality of services that they offer to their patients or clients. However, there is room for improvement in several areas. First, since evidence-based practice is about using research to improve quality services provision and improve patient satisfaction and outcomes, conducting efficient research is one of the areas that can be improved to ensure the advancement of the quality-of-service provision (Stevens, 2013). Secondly, effective communication and advancing patient interaction is an area in which, when improved, immediate results would be obtained in ensuring patient safety hence improving patient outcomes. In addition, applying all aspects of evidence in analyzing research results would advance the quality of services the nurses offer. Moreover, adapting to the change in technology as well as utilizing the technological advancement in conducting thorough research and analyzing the research outcomes would improve the quality of services in the nursing profession (Stevens, 2013).
