In 3-4 paragraphs, use your critical thinking skills to define theory. What constitutes a good theory? What theory can be used as to why people steal?
Answer:
THEORY
The theory is a scientifically acceptable set of organized principles to explain phenomena. Theories simplified explanation of a complex social reality. A theory can be a good one or poor. What makes a theory good? There are some criteria proposed by researchers to evaluate the goodness of a theory.
1. Logical consistency
Logical consistency is a property of a good theory if the set of statements is logically consistent and true at the same time. There are some building blocks of a theory, like theoretical constructs, propositions, boundary conditions, and assumptions. If these are logically consistent with each other, then the theory is called a good theory.
2. Falsifiability
For a theory to be valid, it must be falsifiable. It is a theory that could only be considered scientific if in principle it was possible to establish it as false. falsifiability is the proposition or theory that able to be proven false.
3. Parsimony
The law of parsimony is also called Occams Razor. Parsimony is the law that states that a phenomenon should be explained in a simple manner. For explaining a phenomenon one that uses the smallest number of variables and makes the fewest assumptions are good theories.
4. Explanatory power
It is the ability of a theory to predict reality. If there is a lack of explanatory power then the chance of criticizing is high.
Why do people steal?
Stealing can be a result of deprivation, of envy, or of a desire for power and influence. There is a psychological disorder called kleptomania, characterized by problems with emotional or behavioral self-control. Kleptomania is the recurrent inability to resist urges to steal items. Researchers say that the root cause of this is problems with naturally occurring brain chemical or neurotransmitter, Serotonin.
