High design bar for mobile apps
Unlike the web world, mobile apps need to be quite attractive and rich in their design. Most people nowadays choose mobile apps on the basis of their design and attractiveness. As soon as the user becomes comfortable with the app's design they evaluate their functioning. So, this is very important for creating a good first impression while the main focus should be on the idea of designing a suitable mobile application. The first thing to which the users in recent time gets attracted to is those visuals which are quite innovative and cool. This helps the mobile apps to develop good string values for themselves which attracts the attention of the users on the very first time. To build a customer base the apps should consist of a decent UI system and should be hassle-free in experiences from the user's perspective. Thus something needs to be created which is beyond average which will in turn help in building a quiet impact on the first impression about the app. Moreover, in this way the developed mobile app can also help to empower the image of the brand (Pinchot, 2020).
Difference between the desktop and mobile app design
The size of the screen above all affects the various aspects of the design which results in a huge difference between the app design on desktop and on mobile phones. The apps of the desktop are capable of supporting navigation bars that are fixed but the mobile apps provide limited space for the various menu. Due to this developing the proper design for both designs requires a difference in the main approach. For developing a mobile app the developers need to be aware of the fact that which elements are important for the user and which are the menus that the user needs in the front so this is much harder to design a good attractive for mobile than for desktop. The apps of the desktop make full use of use of cursor-triggered animations and hover texts. Thus this helps the desktop apps for featuring the entire screens which are filled with pictures and descriptive texts and which appear only on the hover. On the other hand in the case of mobile apps, there is an infinite gesture slate that is literally at the fingertips, and thus by only swiping or shaking the app gets opportunities with whole new sets (Scoccia & Autili, 2020).
Reason for choosing Mobile apps over the Desktop apps
Mobile apps are considered beneficial over desktop apps which utilize the features of various devices in mobiles such as contact lists, cameras, phone calls, GPS, and accelerometer compass. These features when utilized by the app make the experience of the user more fun and interactive. Moreover, it makes the jobs much easier for the user. Mobile apps are also quite faster and the contents can also be personalized. They can also be easily accessible either online or through offline mode. There are a few disadvantages regarding the development of mobile apps and this includes firstly the cost of development and then these apps cannot be used in any other operating system other than iOS. Secondly, the cost of maintenance of the mobile apps is also high as they regularly need development, up-gradation, and updates for fixing the bugs and to ensure proper security for the user (Phongtraychack & Dolgaya, 2018).

Now every individual has smart mobile, and the number of companies developing mobile applications is growing each day. So the competitors are high in mobile application development. These days people are showing interest in accessing mobile apps compared to web browsers. The customers play a key role. To attract customers, companies have to develop mobile apps with great UI and design because the number of people using mobile apps is billion. The high design bar for mobile apps makes them have great UI, attractive font size, style and colors, easy navigation, and better accessibility, promoting the company name. Since there is an increase in the number of people using mobile apps and competitors developing these mobile apps are also high. These companies are developing and enhancing mobile app features to meet the customers' interests, setting a higher design bar for others (Petersen et al., 2019).
Desktop app design runs on laptops or desktops, and these cannot run on mobile apps. The desktop apps don't need any internet for users to work on it. We don't have to pay any fees, and we need desktop storage to use these apps. So we need some amount of storage for desktop apps. In case of storage unavailability, we need to delete the unused files and install desktop apps. Desktop app design follows a landscape-oriented display. The application runs on the operating system on the desktop. The native mobile applications work on smart mobiles and are available to specific operating systems like iOS and Android. The mobile app design is a vertically-oriented display. Mobile apps are easy to design and install on mobile. They don't need any additional installation setup (Pandey et al., 2019).

In today’s world, every individual is connected to the virtual world using mobile / desktop devices. Applications, in general, must be very straightforward to navigate through, to increase the number of users accessing an organization’s mobile or web application; however, there are a few other things in addition to that for mobile applications. Firstly, the app must be very responsive; developers must invest a significant amount of time in researching similar applications to note down the best aspects about them. They should also identify possible areas for improvement over competing apps to help the product stand out of the crowd (“Why Mobile App Design is Critical to Your App’s Success”, n.d.). Secondly, to ensure that the user does not lose interest, the development team must pay attention to emerging trends and technologies to always keep the app up to date (“Why Mobile App Design is Critical to Your App’s Success”, n.d.).
When it comes to mobile apps design, there are considerable differences with desktop app design; to start with, an important design consideration for mobile app design is content prioritization which means doing away with anything that is not vital for the users to experience (“Uncover the Differences Amid Mobile App vs Desktop App Design”, n.d.). This is in stark contrast with desktop app design, where a developer can incorporate more details into the user interface due to larger screen sizes. Another significant difference between the design approaches is that while mobile app design entails the concept of ‘information revealing’', desktop app design is all about ‘information hiding’, wherein developers can use the availability of multiple dimensions to hide information (Zhang, 2021).
Although the decision to build a mobile app vs. a desktop app solely depends on the business objectives of the organization, because of the popularity of mobile devices, developers must resort to building mobile apps given a chance to decide between the two (“Uncover the Differences Amid Mobile App vs Desktop App Design”, n.d.). However, if the business objective includes the security of data, then opting for desktop app design may be the best bet as it has very limited interaction with cloud technologies (“Pros and Cons of Web Apps and Desktop Apps”, 2020).
